Our board of volunteers is stretched thin keeping up with time-sensitive items like Team Canada uniforms and registration for IF3 Worlds, along with the many tasks that come with them. We appreciate your patience. Want to Help Speed This Up? If you'd like to see these things move faster (so would we!), we'd love to have you volunteer. Contact us at info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca, or check out our How to Get Involved page (in progress). Where Your Money Goes 100% of the money CF3 receives goes back to its athletes or the development of the sport. No one on the CF3 board is paid for the work and countless hours they contribute. Our official financials are posted as required for non-profit and Sport Canada compliance, and we've also put together a more detailed, easier-to-understand summary showing exactly where the money has gone and is going: 2026 Nationals Budget That said, we don't want to "force" donations on those who can't afford them, so we do our best to offer refunds where needed. Membership Refunds If you were double-billed the annual $15 fee during our transition from cf3.thesport.fit to Circle21, please use the form below to request a refund. If you don't want a refund but would like to confirm you won't be double-charged (we've done our best to ensure this, but it's always worth double-checking), log in to your account to see your current membership status and which system you're subscribed through (C21 or CF3 Stripe). 2026 Nationals Refunds We do our best to fulfill refund requests for injuries, but we don't provide refunds for changing your mind. We've heard your feedback and are committed to improving communication for future events — but that doesn't change our refund policy for this year. If you're requesting a refund due to injury, please fill out the form below and provide some form of documentation. CF3 will refund as much of your registration fee as possible, minus the cost of your t-shirt and name card (if you registered early enough to receive one). Reach out to us by email to arrange pickup of your shirt or name card, or we can ship it to you (shipping costs will be deducted from your refund). We'll work through refund requests as quickly as possible, but again, we have to prioritize time-sensitive board items (Team Canada, Worlds, uniforms, etc.). We appreciate your patience. Read More →In short Every top-three finisher at the 2026 Canadian National Championships was invited to Worlds, and every one of them is Team Canada. Of the 45 athletes who have accepted so far, the 34 who met the published minimum work in every test receive a CF3-provided two-piece kit. The 11 who missed it in one or more tests are on the team and provide their own uniform. No athlete, in any division, receives a travel stipend from CF3 this year. The board reviewed this at its 31 August meeting, including the written proposal it received, and confirmed the decision for 2026. What changes for 2027 is set out below. This post answers every point raised so far, by email and in a formal proposal, about who receives a CF3 uniform and why. Budget breakdown: https://cf3.thesport.fit/2026-nationals-budget Event leaderboard: https://cf3.thesport.fit/2026-nationals-leaderboard Team Canada roster and athlete status: https://cf3.thesport.fit/team-canada The decision Worlds are in Aruba (Masters) and Glasgow (Seniors and Juniors). On the leaderboard, ✓ marks athletes who met the minimum work in every assessed test and receive a CF3 kit; \* marks a missed minimum. Both groups are invited on the same terms. Where that leaves the team as it stands: 62 athletes were invited, 45 have accepted, and of those 45, 34 met the minimum work in every test and receive a CF3 kit while 11 provide their own. Three further invitations are out to senior athletes filling unclaimed spots, all of whom met the minimum. The roster page is the live version and these numbers will move as replies come in. Travel support. Earlier communication said athletes who met the minimum were eligible for whatever travel support the budget allowed. Nationals revenue came in under budget and kit coverage came in smaller than we planned for, so the money earmarked for travel is buying uniforms instead. CF3 cannot provide a travel stipend to any athlete this year. We would rather say that plainly now. What the board decided about the athletes who missed a minimum. CF3 is not funding a uniform for them, and is not back-paying athletes who have already accepted on that basis. We know that is not the answer those athletes and their parents wanted, and we are not going to dress it up. First, and above everything else, this is a money problem. The sponsorship covers a fixed number of kits and the federation's remaining funds are thin. There is no reserve to draw on, no line item we can move, and nobody at CF3 drawing a salary whose pay could be redirected. If the money is not there, no amount of reconsidering changes the outcome, and we would be misleading you to suggest otherwise. The budget page shows every dollar in and every dollar out. When there is not enough to go around, it goes to the athletes who met the published standard, because that is the only line that was set in advance and applies identically to every athlete at every venue. Second, on the argument that this should be about creating a positive experience for young athletes. We agree with that completely. It is the reason we invited every top-three finisher rather than cutting the team down. Where we disagree is on what actually produces that experience. Worlds workouts have no scaled option. An athlete who cannot complete a required movement does not get an easier version; they stand on the competition floor while their heat finishes without them, in front of an arena. That is not a positive experience for anyone, and for a young athlete it can be the thing that ends their interest in the sport rather than the thing that grows it. The minimum work is our honest signal of what that floor will ask. What we will do instead. We committed to keeping the required uniform as cheap as we can make it for anyone buying their own, and we now have that covered from both ends. We are pushing our kit partner for the lowest possible athlete price, and we have a printer standing by who can produce a compliant Team Canada shirt at low cost on about a three-week turnaround if that price comes back too high. The only thing iF3 actually requires is that the uniform clearly display the country or the federation, so nobody needs to buy an expensive item to be eligible to compete. The sponsorship covers a fixed number of athletes and we are a little under that number, so any unused kits go to the athletes being brought in to fill unclaimed spots, and then to the team and staff travelling to Worlds, rather than going to waste. Why 1. The money. Nationals came in well under its revenue budget, and what remains after commitments is less than the cost of uniforms for everyone invited. Nobody at CF3 is paid; every figure is on the budget page. The only realistic route to CF3 ever covering travel is Sport Canada recognition, and Sport Canada measures a federation by "world-class results at the highest international competitions" and performances at "senior world championships." To have a chance at that funding, the little we have goes first to top-performing athletes, especially seniors. On the event spending. Running three venues in one weekend for the first time cost more than a single site, and some budget lines came in above plan. As a non-profit, CF3 also refunds Nationals registrations on request, less the cost of any signage or apparel already produced for that athlete, and every refund comes out of the pool that funds Team Canada. For 2027 the board is adopting a documented spending approval process so kit is budgeted and protected before the season starts. Publishing the budget is part of that commitment. 2. The minimums are not arbitrary. They were set by our lead programmer, who sits on the IF3 programming board and knows what those workouts will contain, then agreed by the programming committee and approved by the board. They describe the volume and the movements an athlete will actually face in Glasgow or Aruba, which is why they are the line we fund against, and why an athlete who is close this year has a clear target for next year. 3. The alternative was a smaller team. Whether to go anyway is a judgement for the athlete and their coach, which is why we invited every top-three finisher and are being straightforward about what they will face. The other option was that only athletes who met every minimum would qualify at all. The unfunded invitation is the more inclusive option, not the less. Questions we have been asked "Is this a budget shortage?" Yes. The budget page shows it line by line. Last year CF3 could provide a basic uniform to its qualifiers; this year the sponsorship covers a fixed number of athletes and there is nothing left for travel. That is arithmetic, not a change in how CF3 values its athletes. "The requirements keep changing." The minimum work requirements were published with the workouts, two weeks before the event, and have not changed since. No objection was raised at the time, and roughly nine in ten athletes met them. It was also stated in writing, more than once, that missing the minimum work meant no funded kit. What changed is the money. "Podium finishers earned their place. Why penalize them with a baseline?" Nobody is penalized. Every podium finisher keeps their medal, placing, and invitation, on the same terms as everyone else. The minimum only decides who receives a funded uniform when there are not enough to go around. Every Olympic sport sets entry standards an athlete must hit to compete at all; ours affects funding, not entry. "Why does a lower-placing athlete receive more support?" Placing is relative: where you finished against your division that weekend. The minimum is absolute: whether you can complete the specific work Worlds will require, whoever else was in the field. Both were published before Nationals. CF3 funds against the absolute standard because it predicts a successful trip and applies identically everywhere. "Fund the uniform for everyone and keep the minimum for travel only." With no travel stipend, the uniform is the only thing the money buys. We agree the uniform is mandatory (iF3 Rule 3.7 requires a uniform identifying the athlete's country or federation); that is why we are protecting a kit for the athletes the sponsorship can cover, and why we are making sure the required uniform is cheap for everyone else. "Apply the rule differently for youth, or for divisions with three or more competitors." The board considered this and declined it. Field size does not establish quality: a small or weak division can produce a podium where nobody met the standard, and funding by field size would reward that. A standard published with the workouts also cannot be rewritten after the event without being unfair to the athletes who met it. "The minimums were too hard for youth and not calibrated against historical results." Partly fair, and this is where the board did move. For 2027, minimum work requirements will be set division by division against past World Championship programming rather than as one line across every age group, and they will be published well in advance with the required skills spelled out, so nobody arrives at Nationals unsure of what they need to do. Athletes will still need to meet the minimum in all six tests to be eligible for a funded uniform. "Can this year's decision be reconsidered?" It has been. The written proposal went to the board with the budget attached and was reviewed at the 31 August meeting. The rule stands for 2026, with the 2027 changes above. Anyone who wants to raise something further can write to info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca and will get an answer. "A federation that wants Olympic recognition should be moving forward, not backward." Agreed, and inviting everyone who finished top three is part of that. But the funding to support every athlete comes from Sport Canada, which measures senior results at Worlds, and from growth in registered clubs and members. Spending the reserve on this year's kit leaves nothing to grow with next year. How to help The one thing that changes this picture is revenue outside Nationals. Registering your gym as a CF3 club directly funds Team Canada. Sponsorship secured early enough to budget around is what decides how many athletes we can outfit next year: the more we have, the further down the team the kit reaches. Read More →A huge thank you to everyone who came out to compete or volunteer at any of our three National Championship events! We apologize for the delay in making official announcements — the team is working through the scoreboard to cross-check scores and review disputes before releasing official results. Once the leaderboard is officially announced, invites to join Team Canada at the IF3 World Championships will be sent out. This season's events are: 2026 IF3 Masters Worlds — Aruba 2026 IF3 Seniors & Juniors Worlds — United Kingdom A few things to note and prepare for: Masters Worlds is coming up quickly. Once your invite is sent, you'll have roughly 7 days to accept and register for the event so we can have your Team Canada apparel ready in time. If you met all minimum work requirements, you qualify for a 'Paid Ticket' — CF3 will cover the cost of your Team Canada uniform and will try to allocate a (likely small) travel or registration stipend, if funds allow. If you did NOT meet all minimum work requirements but placed top 3 in your division, you're still eligible to join Team Canada, but you'll be required to cover your uniform cost (final price TBA — possibly as low as $50), and no travel stipend will be awarded. We want to hear from you: <https://cf3.thesport.fit/nationals-feedback> CF3 is a non-profit run by volunteer coaches, athletes, and club owners — your feedback helps shape the future of the sport across Canada. Please take a minute to share your thoughts on the event, and stay tuned for AGM dates, where all active members will be able to vote on future CF3 seasons and the direction of our National Championship events. You can view the leaderboard via Circle21 or here: <https://cf3.thesport.fit/2026-nationals-leaderboard> Once the leaderboard is 100% final, an announcement will be posted here and sent out via C21 with next steps for those who qualified.

Read More →Some important updates regarding our recently announced CF3 National Championship workouts, how Worlds qualification will work, and workout updates. Our team apologizes for not communicating these pathways, as well as the minimum work requirements, earlier. These are all matters that will be up for vote by you (the members) at this year's AGM (late Sept / early Oct, final date TBA) to determine how we qualify athletes for Team Canada in future years — here's what you need to know for this year's events. Qualification for the 2026 IF3 Worlds Paid ticket: You meet all minimum work requirements and finish top 3 in your division. This means CF3 will pay for your Team Canada uniform and allocate a percentage of event revenue toward an athlete travel stipend (amount TBD, if any). One of the Sport Canada requirements for sport funding is to send top performing athletes to represent Team Canada on the world stage. This year, instead of sending as many athletes as possible like last year (40, which was awesome), we are focusing on providing better financial support to the top performing athletes. Unpaid ticket: You do NOT meet minimum work requirements, but still finish top 3 in your division. This means the athlete will be responsible for paying for their Team Canada uniform (minimum $50, with options for additional kit) as well as covering all of their own travel costs. Though our goal is to send top performers, we still want to ensure those who can afford it get the chance to experience a truly world class international competition. Being unable to meet minimum work will not remove your ability to qualify, it just makes you ineligible to receive CF3 funding support. What if I cannot complete certain movements? Based on the above, you have 2 options. If you believe you can still finish in the top 3 in your division and are interested in attending IF3 Worlds, we encourage you to stay in the competitive division. If you do NOT believe you will finish in the top 3, or would rather just have fun at the event, please email info@cf3.fit to be moved to the scaled or non-competitive division. Can I get a refund? We appreciate that some athletes may have felt blindsided by the skill and work requirements released this year. All requirements are based on the level of skill required to compete at IF3 Worlds. We will NOT be offering refunds for being unable to complete movements, as athlete shirts, name placards, and other materials have already been ordered. As mentioned above, we will happily change your registration to the scaled or non-competitive division. Contact us ASAP to have that changed. Can I still register? Our East location is 100% full. If you are looking to grab a last-minute spot at our West or Central locations, email info@cf3.fit ASAP. If you qualified for CF Semi-Finals and want to join a competitive division (West and Central only), make sure to include which division you will be registering for. Workout Updates As always when workouts are released, there were some minor typos and errors (across almost 30 different divisions). All workouts have now been updated. Please see the final versions online: <https://cf3.thesport.fit/news/2026-cf3-nationals-events> (or via the event pages) Volunteers & Technical Official Training One of CF3's biggest goals in legitimizing the sport in Canada is creating a base of consistently trained Technical Officials (judges). Our team of volunteers has put together multiple TO training options for this event. If you are able to volunteer, please register here: cf3.thesport.fit/volunteer, then plan to attend one of the TO training sessions listed below (log in to RSVP, or email info@cf3.fit and we can add your RSVP). We also encourage competing athletes to attend a TO training event so you know exactly what will be expected of you for each workout and movement. A key principle in our TO training: if you are not 100% sure it's a rep (or you have to hesitate), it's a no-rep! Note: our email issues are fixed, you can contact us via info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca OR info@cf3.fit

Read More →What to Expect at the 2026 CF3 National Championships For those new to the sport of Functional Fitness as managed by a non-profit governing body: the CF3 (Canadian Functional Fitness Federation) exists as a nominated Board of Directors and athlete member volunteers. Our primary goal in hosting a Canadian championship is to qualify the best talent possible to represent Canada at the IF3 World Championships. Because that is the goal, we prioritize accessibility over the size of the event itself. We also decided after COVID to prioritize in-person events again, as we hadn't held an in-person Nationals since before 2020. As a non-profit run entirely by volunteers, with our primary purpose being the qualification stepping stone to the true world-class event (the IF3 World Championships), we want you to know exactly what you've signed up for, and how it supports the ongoing growth and development of Functional Fitness in Canada and our pursuit of Sport Canada recognition. This may not be the biggest competition you've ever entered. Nationals is hosted at our (awesome) affiliates rather than a large venue. This keeps costs down so that as much of the CF3 budget as possible (all profits from this event) can go back to the athletes and Team Canada, toward uniforms and support for IF3 Worlds. You may not be competing beside people in your division. This event runs in three locations simultaneously, so you have to give it your all regardless of who's in the lane next to you. We know that's hard for some, but it's also great practice: learning to put out your best effort no matter who's beside you is a skill that serves you at Worlds. A small division does not guarantee qualification. Even if you're one of only 1–3 athletes in your division, you still have to meet the minimum work requirements to earn a spot representing Canada. We're fortunate that our head programmer also sits on the IF3 programming board, so if your division isn't full, it's you against the workouts. Why we run it this way. Last year and this year, our goal was to move away from online national championships so we could provide in-person technical official training and judging, while still offering more accessibility than a single large-scale event allows (and minimizing the cost of travelling across Canada, then again to IF3 Worlds). So we encourage you to look at this year's event as "at least I don't have to film it" rather than "the biggest national championship ever." We're using this opportunity to solidify the foundation of functional fitness in Canada through consistent technical official training, enforced movement standards, and high-quality programming rather than spectacle. Your voice decides what comes next. We understand the scale of this event may be disappointing to some athletes, and we apologize for that. At this year's CF3 AGM, all active members will vote on how you would like to see our national championships held in future years: a return to online Nationals, a large-scale in-person event, or something in between. Make sure you have an active athlete membership to be included in that vote. Beyond voting, we encourage you to join a committee (like the Nationals or Domestic Development Committees) to help spread the word and deliver whatever our community decides. Thank you for your understanding as we work to establish a competitive and consistent functional fitness season for, and by, Canadian athletes.
