What a TO does
Technical Officials judge sanctioned competitions — validating reps, enforcing movement standards, and confirming scores. Without TOs, events can't be sanctioned.
Levels
CF3 has three national TO levels. Level 3 is the highest, and it is the level iF3 asks CF3 to confirm before a CF3 official goes on to iF3 Class I testing.
- Level 1: online, free. Pass the online theory test (TO1 test) and at least one event test (a quiz for a specific event, listed on Quizzes). Level 1 is awarded automatically the moment both are passed.
- Level 2: in-person experience. Officiate at least 3 in-person competitions and attend 1 TO training session (in person or online). Each one counts only once a TO Admin or CF3 board member has confirmed you actually attended; an RSVP on its own does not count. When you have all four, a TO Admin certifies Level 2.
- Level 3: reviewed at a national event. Once you hold Level 2, request a review at an upcoming National Championship or National Qualifier. A CF3 board member is assigned to watch you officiate and records the result. A pass awards Level 3. The review carries a fee, shown on Memberships.
Your progress on every step, and anything still waiting to be confirmed, is shown on My TO.
Getting started
- Tick Technical Official as a member type on your profile. That puts you in the TO directory and on the training lists.
- Work through the TO training materials.
- Take the TO1 test, then an event test from Quizzes. That is Level 1.
- RSVP to competitions as a Technical Official and turn up. After the event a TO Admin confirms your attendance.
- Attend a TO training session (RSVP to it as a Technical Official too, so it can be confirmed).
- At Level 2, request your Level 3 review on My TO.
Standards & rulebook
Movement standards live at /if3-standards. The CF3 rulebook (formats, divisions, scoring) is at /rules. TOs are expected to know both — questions on tests come straight from these documents.
Assignments
Hosts and TO Admins build each event's officiating roster from the TOs who RSVP'd, and you can be invited directly for larger events. Assignments and any travel support are arranged with the host of each event.
How long a level lasts
A level is valid for three years from the start of the year it was awarded, after which you re-certify. Your level does not depend on your membership status, but an active membership is needed to officiate at National Championship qualifiers, the Nationals and iF3 events.
