Building the Future of Functional Fitness in Canada – Together
Where We Started & Where We’re Going
The Canadian Functional Fitness Federation (CFFF) is on a mission to establish our sport as a recognized and thriving national and international presence. Over the past months, we’ve been laying the groundwork for structured governance, better athlete and club engagement, and high-quality officiating—all crucial steps toward gaining national sports recognition and, eventually, Olympic inclusion.
We cannot do this alone. This is your chance to be part of something bigger—helping shape the future of Functional Fitness in Canada.
1. What We’ve Accomplished So Far
🔹 Committee Development & Governance
We formalized and structured our key committees, ensuring that Functional Fitness in Canada is being built on a solid foundation with clear leadership and accountability. The formal documentation for these committees (and everything else) can be found on our web app: www.cf3.thesport.fit/cmte
-
Technical Officials Committee (Led by Raul) — Creating a national certification system for technical officials (TOs) to standardize judging and ensure high competition standards.
-
Domestic Development Committee (Led by Michelle) — Growing membership, advertising, and club engagement to bring in new athletes and affiliates.
-
National Championships Committee (Led by Simon) — Planning and executing Nationals, with a long-term goal of developing regional and national event pipelines.
Each committee now has Terms of Reference (official guiding documents), and we are now ready to begin actively recruiting members to expand our efforts.
🔹 Technical Official Development – Building the Backbone of Competition
One of our biggest priorities is developing a standardized system for Technical Officials (TOs), as this is crucial to ensuring fair, professional, and well-run competitions.
✅ Established a clear 3-Level Training & Certification Pathway
-
Level 1: FREE online training and test (basic rules & movement standards)
-
Level 2: Completion of live online training offered prior to CFFF sanctioned events
-
Level 3: In-person evaluation & certification at a CFFF-sanctioned event
**✅ Updated and centralized training documents in a shared database for easy access.
✅ Established a TO recruitment and mentorship program—our goal is to train and certify at least 50 TOs this year.
✅ Partnered with IF3 to align with global standards, ensuring that our TOs have a direct path to international judging opportunities.**
➡️ Why This Matters: Every major sport is built on strong officiating. Having well-trained TOs is essential for Functional Fitness to be taken seriously on a national and international level.
🔹 National Championships & Competition Growth
**✅ Nationals 2025 confirmed for Vancouver (PNE Forum) at half the cost of previous venues, allowing us to reinvest funds into athlete support.
✅ Exploring a secondary Eastern event location (Ontario or Quebec) to improve accessibility for athletes who cannot travel.
✅ Structured qualification pathways with two online qualifiers to earn a Nationals spot, and integration with local competitions to create a pathway from community events to high-level competition.
✅ Developing an event management and ranking system with Circle 21, linking athlete performances across competitions for an official Canadian leaderboard.**
➡️ Why This Matters: A structured Nationals pipeline ensures we are consistently identifying and developing Canada’s top athletes while also making the sport more accessible at the local level.
🔹 Membership Growth & Athlete Engagement
**✅ Centralized event listing for clubs and competitions, creating an easy way for athletes to find Functional Fitness events nationwide.
✅ Developed a new club registration model with added benefits: free advertising for their events, access to CFFF branding & movement standards, and direct ranking system integration.
✅ Revamped athlete registration, making it easier for new athletes to sign up and track their progress.
✅ Launching a nationwide athlete survey to gather direct feedback on competition experience, accessibility issues, and how CFFF can better serve its members.**
➡️ Why This Matters: More registered athletes and clubs = more funding, better competitions, and stronger national representation in the sport.
🔹 Strengthening Our National & International Presence
**✅ Working with legal and governance experts to ensure compliance with Canadian Sport Law, making it possible for us to apply for federal and provincial funding.
✅ Partnering with IF3 and other National Federations to align our systems with international standards, making Canadian athletes and TOs more competitive on the world stage.
✅ Building long-term relationships with brands & sponsors to increase financial support for our events and athletes.**
