The Event — CFFF National Championships
The National Championship events are run by the Canadian Functional Fitness Federation — the official National Sport Organization (NSO) operating under the International Functional Fitness Federation (IF3). They qualify the top 3 athletes in each division for the IF3 World Championships (2025: Masters & Juniors, Nov 21–23 in Australia; Seniors & Juniors, December in Lithuania).
To minimize travel costs and ensure the best athletes across Canada qualify (not just East or West), the same competition runs simultaneously in two locations using a shared leaderboard. Establishing this event and its dates long-term also helps qualify for Sport Canada funding available only to National Sport Organizations — which would support athlete travel, technical-official training, school program integration, and long-term athlete development.
Event Locations
- WEST CFFF National Championships — July 19–20 at Hybrid Athletics, Langley, British Columbia.
- EAST CFFF National Championships — July 19–20 at TeamLDN Training Center, London, Ontario.
Athlete Information
Athletes qualify via an online qualifier, their provincial championships, or a direct invite. (Update: the qualifier requirement was later removed and registration opened to all athletes.) Qualifier and event detail links were maintained on the event page.
Volunteers
These events run on volunteers (including the entire board). Half-day (7AM–1PM or 12PM–7PM), full-day, or full-weekend shifts at either location; food, shirts, and front-row seats provided to anyone who volunteers at least one shift.
Technical Officials
Part of the NSO mission is training nationally- and internationally-recognized Technical Officials. Start with the free TO1 test, then attend a live TO2 training the weekend prior at both locations (with a backup online session during the week).
Event Schedule
Tentative schedule for both locations: Setup — Fri 7:00–9:00 PM, Sat/Sun 7:00 AM onward. Event — Sat 8AM–6PM, Sun 8AM–2PM. Full heats/schedule posted after registration closed. (See also the schedule news post.)
Competition & Event FAQ
Why 2 locations? To ensure the best talent qualifies regardless of geography and to alleviate cross-country travel costs. A shared leaderboard avoids an "east vs west" split — the top 3 from either location advance.
How does the leaderboard work? Scores for each event go live only once both locations have completed all heats of that event, so nobody sees times to beat. Final winners are announced only after both events fully wrap.
What if I didn't qualify — can I still compete? Yes. To work toward Sport Canada NSO recognition and grow registration, the qualifier requirement was removed and registration opened to all athletes who believe they have what it takes.
Why do I need an athlete membership? The $15/year annual athlete membership is required for all sanctioned events and supports the non-profit. Purchased via cf3.thesport.fit; it auto-renews annually through Stripe unless disabled. (Note: membership charges show as "BCFFSA" — the original account — but payment goes to CFFF. FFL athletes don't require a membership to compete.)
Why did the WEST venue change? To raise the standard (not the size) of competition — Hybrid Athletics provided a higher-quality event. (See the WEST venue update post.)
What if there are fewer than 3 in my division? You'll never compete alone — you'll have a full heat alongside other athletes. Scores from EAST and WEST publish once all athletes finish. Divisions with three or fewer athletes across both locations must still meet strict minimum work requirements to qualify.
When is the athlete brief? Full workout details, flow, and standards were released when TO training began (Sun July 13), far enough in advance that a full brief wasn't needed — a virtual brief could be held Friday on request.
Spectator tickets? By donation (recommended $15) or via purchase of an Athlete Annual Membership. Name/email collected at the entry.
Athlete check-in? Not required Friday night (team is setting up). Otherwise arrive at least 15 minutes before the first event brief Saturday (event 1 brief ~7:45 AM).
Brands & Partners
The goal is to connect Canadian brands with Canadian athletes. WEST (Hybrid Athletics Langley): vendor village at the entrance, table/booth space, power available, social shout-outs, listing on the CF3 Partners page; expected 40+ volunteers, 60–100+ athletes, 100+ spectators. Support via donations (suggested $100–$500 by business size), in-kind product/services, or a % of event revenue if retailing. EAST: brand applications go through the event host, Team LDN.
Request for support
As a non-profit, spreading the word is the biggest challenge. The 2025 President's letters (tailored to Athletes, Gym Owners, and Brands) explained the federation's goals and how to help. The federation is always looking for committee/board volunteers and Technical Officials across Canada.
