What a membership is for
An Athlete Annual Membership is required to compete at National Championship qualifiers, the National Championships and iF3 World events. It is not required for every competition in Canada — a local event sets its own entry rules.
It is also how anyone holds an active CF3 profile — athlete, coach, official, parent or supporter — and what funds the federation: the officials program, the national pathway, and keeping the lights on. Committee and board seats are held by active members.
What's on the Memberships page
Memberships lists everything CF3 sells or awards:
- Athlete Annual Membership — the one described above. Valid 12 months.
- Club Annual Membership — registers a gym with CF3: a detailed club page, the club's athletes, and its events on the national calendar. Valid 12 months.
- One-time licenses — the Sanctioned Event License (paid once per event by the host) and the Technical Official levels. These are not memberships and do not make you a member.
- Qualification statuses — earned by qualifying, never bought. They have their own page: Qualification Status.
Buying
The Athlete Annual Membership can be bought through Circle21 (the registration platform CF3 events run on) or on CF3, from the membership's page, through Stripe. Either way your status shows Active on your profile once the payment is matched to your email — within a few minutes for Stripe, and on the next sync for Circle21.
Buy with the same email you use on CF3. A Circle21 payment under a different address cannot be matched to your profile automatically; email info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca and we'll link it.
Memberships bought before 28 April 2026 through BCFFSA were carried over with their original expiry date, so nothing needs repurchasing until that date passes.
Renewals
- Bought on CF3 (Stripe) — renews automatically on the anniversary of purchase. Use Manage Billing on the Membership & Coms page (/preferences) to update your card or switch auto-renew off. If a renewal payment fails your status moves to Lapsed; updating the card restores it when the next charge succeeds.
- Bought through Circle21 — a one-year purchase that does not auto-renew. Buy again when it expires.
Status terms
- Active — paid up; you can enter the events that require a membership and hold committee roles.
- Lapsing Soon — still active, expiring within the month.
- Lapsed — expired or never completed.
- Complimentary — granted by the federation (directors, certain partners) with an expiry date it sets. Counts as active.
Family / dependent members
CF3 doesn't bundle dependents under one account. Athletes under 18 each need their own profile, with a parent or guardian linked. Email info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca before signing up several minors so we can set up the guardian links cleanly.
Refunds
Refund decisions are made by the federation, not automatically. Use the refund request form within 14 days of purchase.
